Here I am, blogging on the NEL. Managed to get a seat despite it being the peak hour when the entire SengKang population is trying to get home.
I'm quite glad to rediscover the joys of travelling on public transport (well, as long as one manages to get a seat it's really quite fun actually) I'm listening to music on my iTunes playlist while typing furiously on my typeboard.
I love my new baby compaq btw! It's small and light, plus it has this beautiful widescreen too...
And to further sidetrack, I'm getting an ipod mini later this month!! Oh no, it's not because I stuck 4D or Toto or anything of that sort. I upgraded my singnet broadband plans and they are giving me the ipod mini free!! Haven't called them up to bug them about the colour though. I am horribly terribly afraid that they are going to hoist a lime green one on me.... (Yeewww... just think about that..)
Ahem, anyway, and so I was listening to music on my baby and I was just musing again. Perhaps art cannot and should not be classified into good and bad art if you know what I mean. My playlist consists of several genres of music, none of which I can decide is my favourite. I like them all, and in my eyes, they are good music pieces which entertain.
My mind then drifted back into the days where we had SYF competitions. I was always frustrated at how the conductor kept trying to make all of us comform to one style of singing/playing the piece. Personally I felt that it was rather restricting. I understand that singing/playing a group piece is rather different from a solo, having done both myself. But nonetheless, blinding restricting diversity amongst the participants and forcibly achieving uniformity in the music somehow seemed contradictory to the purpose of having the SYF event altogether. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the purpose of the exercise was to encourage the love of music as well as creativity amongst our youth. Schools nationwide, in a bid to grab the top prize, were however going quite the opposite way. They were attempting to induct a performance which was tailored to win the judges' applause.
Hmmmz. Anyway I've reached Serangoon hee.
