Can you keep a secret?

Secrets. Doesn't everyone have them?

How far is there a duty of disclosure? The common law system which I belong to, does not promote a duty of disclosure. ( And though I still think the civil law system seems to be much more open to corruption than ours, I'm beginning to like the civil law system better because it seems more moral.) Anyway, back to the point. I do not think that there is necessarily a total duty of disclosure, neither do I think that there is no such thing as a duty to disclose. Which, incidentally, makes it seem like I have no stand.

But as always, of course I do. I always take things in balanced amounts. I think that where the information if not disclosed to the other party will be detrimental to said party, it should therefore be disclosed. But of course, our loyalties lie with ourselves first. And anything which is detrimental to ourselves if we do not keep it out of the reach of others' knowledge, we will keep as secrets.

Then there is the problem with secrecy and loyalty to those around you. Does not telling those around you about your secrets imply a lack of loyalty to them? Not necessarily in some cases, and in others, it could well be the worst thing one could do to a trusted friend. I prefer to decide on a case-by-case basis.

Bleah. Out of stamina to write again.. it's been this way these days. I wonder why. Inclined to blame it on the three months' break.
